Comparing Different Types of Bathtub Faucets

Find a great small bathtub for your bathroom. Learn about what to look for first.

While you may not put that much thought into the type of faucet that you’re going to choose for your bathroom, what you will find is that it’s important actually that you do, because there are so many different types out there.  This is really the final piece of any type of bathroom, and they make a big difference in the way that it will look and be perceived by everybody that uses the bathroom or shower at your house.  You’re going to find that this means you want to put a lot of thought into them, and you have to ensure that you’re choosing the bathtub faucets that really make the tub come alive.

While you may not realize it, there are so many choices out there, you really want to narrow down just what’s going to look good, or work with the style of your bathroom.  You don’t want to go classic if you have a more modern bathroom, or the two generations are going to clash, and not in a positive way at all.  So here are a few different types of faucets in common use for the bathroom, and what you can do to adapt them to your room more easily:

1) Freestanding Faucets

If you have an older claw foot style of small bathtub, then this is a great type of faucet that’s pretty easy for you to install.  They are made to be installed actually outside of the tub, and are connected straight to the floor, but are long enough to loop over into the tub as well.  But you’re going to find that these types of faucets are pretty limited and you’re going to find that this is the only way that you can use them if you do have a freestanding tub.  Otherwise they’re just not going to work out for you.

2) Deck Mounted Styles

These are the more common types that you’re going to see in a lot more tubs, as they are the types of faucets that are literally installed on the deck of the tub.  This way, you can easily access your bathtub faucets to make it much more simple to fill the tub, as well as put more hot water inside when you’ve been soaking for a while as well.  Plus here is where you get more style options as well, from the cool old style Victorian faucets, to more modern sleek fixtures as well.

3) Wall Mounted Faucets

But of course, perhaps the most common type of bathtub faucets that you’re going to find anywhere are the wall mounted types.  These are the types that you literally do place on your wall to be used through the pipes running right behind the tub.  You’re going to find that these can have a problem however, in which they can corrode the wall around them because of the constant contact with water if you find that you ever have a leak.

4) Selecting a Finish

You’ll find that a big part of customizing bathtub faucets is picking out the right types of finish.  That means thinking about whether you want to go with a finish that features nickel or chrome plating, or something like a more tarnished copper as well if you’re just looking for something stylish.  Either way, you’re going to have lots of options to choose from and that’s a massive bonus when everything is said and done.

5) Handles

Finally you also want to think about the handles for your faucets. These are actually surprisingly important bathtub faucet parts, as they are going to dictate how easy your faucet is to use. For some it has to be dual handle so that you have one handle for hot and one handle for cold water, which is just easier for some when it comes to actually using their faucet.

But if you don’t want to take up that much space on your bathtub faucets, then you can also go with those that are just one single handle, and that turn around and allow you to control both temperatures at the same time.  That way, you can ensure that you’re able to choose a style but also control scheme that’s as easy as possible for you to manipulate.
